The Zenhaven is a 10-inch flippable all-latex mattress featuring a different firmness level on each side. The mattress is crafted with eco-friendly materials including natural Dunlop latex, organic cotton, and organic New Zealand wool. Dunlop latex has a dense, durable composition. It sleeps cooler than memory foam, and has a slight bounce to it that’s desirable for sex.

The company behind the Zenhaven is Saatva, a well-known American mattress company that first became known for its luxury Saatva innerspring mattress – a best mattress of the year candidate. Saatva also makes the all-foam Loom & Leaf, the Solaire airbed, the Saatva Youth innerspring, and the Saatva HD hybrid mattress.

Like all of Saatva’s mattresses, the Zenhaven is not compressed for shipping. White Glove delivery and old mattress removal are built into the price of each mattress.

Wondering if the Zenhaven has what it takes to give you a perfect night’s sleep? We’ll break down everything you need to know, including specs, performance ratings, sleeper recommendations, and other practical information.

Side Sleepers

The Zenhaven’s medium soft side offers closer conforming that works well to relieve pressure points in side sleepers, especially those who weigh less than 130 pounds. Heavier side sleepers may find that their hips sink in a little too far.

Back Sleepers

Despite the zoned comfort layers that help support the lumbar area, the medium soft side of the Zenhaven is somewhat too soft for most back sleepers

Typically, back sleepers are most comfortable on a mattress that falls between 5 and 7 on the firmness scale, and the Zenhaven falls at a 4. Those who weigh less than 130 pounds will be all right, but those who weigh more than 130 pounds may find the mattress doesn’t provide sufficient support to maintain spinal alignment.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers require a firmer surface to keep the hips from sinking, as this is where most people carry the bulk of their weight. The medium soft side of the Zenhaven is a tad too plush and may fail to keep the spine aligned in stomach sleepers.

Those who weigh less than 130 pounds don’t sink in as far, and as a result, these stomach sleepers should find the medium soft side fairly comfortable.

Side Sleepers

The harder surface of the Zenhaven’s firm side may cause pressure points in some side sleepers, particularly those who weigh less than 130 pounds.

Sleepers over 130 pounds exert more pressure on the mattress and will get more of the pressure-relieving benefits of the zoned comfort layer. For these sleepers, the Zenhaven should be fairly comfortable when sleeping on the side.

Back Sleepers

The firm surface and zoned comfort layers of the Zenhaven cradle back sleepers, providing an even balance of support and pressure relief to keep the spine aligned. Back sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds should find the mattress very comfortable.

Stomach Sleepers

At 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, the Zenhaven’s firm side is more than firm enough to keep the spine on an even plane. This is true of most stomach sleepers, especially those who weigh 130 pounds or more.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5/10

Medium Soft side: 6 / 10

Firm side: 4.5 / 10

Couples who share the bed should notice minimal disruptions from their partner’s movements. Dunlop latex generally has high point elasticity, conforming less closely than memory foam.

If you’re a very sensitive sleeper and you sleep with a partner, you might prefer the medium soft side. This side conforms more closely and does a better job of isolating motion transfer than the firm side.

Pressure Relief

7.5/10

Medium Soft side: 7.5 / 10

Firm side: 6 / 10

Both sides of the Zenhaven offer good pressure relief. The medium soft side conforms somewhat to the shape of the body, and it is better suited to side sleepers and people who weigh less than 130 pounds.

The firm side keeps sleepers more “on” than “in” the mattress, promoting spinal alignment and preventing pressure build-up in stomach sleepers and people over 230 pounds.

Dunlop latex has a dense feel. Instead of allowing sleepers to sink in like with memory foam, the mattress reduces pressure points by keeping sleepers “floating” on top of the mattress. The zoning helps cushion sensitive areas while providing firmer support where needed to keep the spine aligned. It’s supportive nature makes this a great fit for those looking for a mattress to soothe their back pain.

Temperature Control

8/10

Overall, hot sleepers should have no problem sleeping on either side of the Zenhaven.

Dunlop latex is naturally breathable, and the pincore holes provide an opportunity for heat to escape, making it a great cooling mattress option. The breathable cotton cover and moisture-wicking wool layer also help draw heat away from the body.

Edge Support

7/10

Medium Soft side: 6 / 10

Firm side: 7.5 / 10

The Zenhaven doesn’t have reinforced edges, although the latex holds up fairly well when pressure is applied to the perimeter. This is especially true of the firm side, which only compresses minimally under pressure.

Some sleepers may feel some sinkage when sitting on the edge of the medium soft side. However, most people shouldn’t have any trouble sleeping right up to the edge of the bed. This is an advantage for people who share a smaller mattress.

Ease of Movement

7.5/10

Dunlop latex is lightly responsive, and combination sleepers will find it easy to switch sleeping positions in the Zenhaven.

Off-Gassing

8/10

Technically, the Zenhaven won’t off-gas, since it contains no polyfoam and therefore no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The mattress also eschews flame-retardant chemicals in favor of a natural wool barrier.

Some customers may notice a faint rubbery smell when the mattress arrives. Any odor should disappear within no time at all.

The latex used in the Zenhaven is certified by OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which guarantees it to be free of harmful substances.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

The Zenhaven is priced at $2,399 for a queen, which is quite reasonable for an all-latex mattress.

Natural latex is expensive to produce but it usually outlasts other mattress types, which makes it a worthwhile investment. Dunlop latex in particular costs less to produce than Talalay latex, and is prized for its enhanced breathability and dense feel.

Each Zenhaven mattress is delivered with complimentary White Glove delivery, and Saatva offers optional old mattress removal at no extra fee. Most online mattress companies charge at least $100 for these options.

Zenhaven Mattress Review Breakdown

The Zenhaven has four layers of latex in total, made up of a comfort layer and a support layer for each side. All the latex is 100% natural Dunlop latex, which is heavier and denser than Talalay latex. Both sides have an organic cotton cover with natural wool padding.

We found the Gentle Firm side to equate to a 7 out of 10 on our firmness scale, or “Firm.” The Luxury Plush side is closer to a 4 out of 10, or “Medium Soft.” Since the Zenhaven is solid latex and therefore quite heavy, Saatva will send a team to flip the mattress if you decide you prefer the other side after all.

An organic cotton cover provides a soft and breathable surface for the Zenhaven mattress. The cover is coated with Guardin® antimicrobial treatment. Under the cotton there is a thin layer of New Zealand wool, which wicks away moisture from the sleeper and provides a natural fire barrier.

The firm side has a comfort layer consisting of 1.5 inches of natural Dunlop latex. This layer has an indentation load deflection (ILD) of 20-24, which is relatively firm. Sleepers will mostly sleep on top of the mattress. The medium soft side comfort layer consists of 1.5 inches of Dunlop latex with an ILD of 14-19, which is quite plush and allows closer conforming.

Both comfort layers are divided into 5 zones, using different-sized pincore holes to provide a firmer surface under the torso and shoulders. The pincore holes also add breathability to the mattress, maintaining a cool sleep surface throughout the night.

Under the comfort layer, the firm side of the Zenhaven is supported by 3 inches of Dunlop latex with an ILD of 30-34. The medium soft side has 3 inches of Dunlop latex, which has an ILD of 25-29.

Together, these support layers form a firm core that prevents sleepers from sinking in too far and keeps the spine aligned.

Trial, Warranty, and Shipping Policies

Availability

The Zenhaven ships with free White Glove delivery to the contiguous U.S. and some locations in Canada. Delivery times vary between 7-18 days depending on location.

Saatva does not currently ship mattresses directly to Hawaii or Alaska. That being said, they may be able to coordinate a delivery to those states with a third party.

The mattress is only available for purchase on Saatva.com. Saatva recently opened a viewing room in New York City where customers can try out the mattress.

Shipping

All Zenhaven mattresses are shipped with free White Glove delivery through a third-party delivery service. The mattress is not compressed as a bed in a box for shipping. The delivery team will set up the mattress inside your home and remove your old mattress if you select this free option at checkout.

Saatva asks you to select a preferred firmness level at the time of ordering, so the delivery team can set it up on the right side. Because the mattress is quite heavy, you can contact Saatva who will send a team to flip the mattress free of charge if you decide you prefer the other side.

The day before delivery, the provider will reach out to schedule a 4-hour delivery window. If the driver is late, customers can choose to reschedule the delivery or cancel the order. If there is no adult home during the delivery window, the mattress will be sent back. In this case, you can reschedule the delivery or cancel it, but in both instances, you will be charged a $99 transportation fee. If the mattress doesn’t fit into the room you have specified, it will be sent back and you will be responsible for the $99 transportation fee.

If the mattress arrives damaged, you can refuse it and receive a full refund, or get a new one delivered. If you need to sleep on it that night you can accept it while you wait for the new one, as long as this is noted on the driver’s delivery slip. If Saatva makes a mistake with the order you can also keep the mattress while you wait for the correct one to arrive.

Additional Services

White Glove delivery service is included with all Zenhaven mattress orders. Old mattress removal is available at no extra charge for customers who select this option at checkout.

Sleep Trial

The Zenhaven mattress comes with a 365-night sleep trial. Customers who decide to return the mattress during this time will receive a full refund minus a $99 transportation fee.

Warranty

Saatva stands by the Zenhaven mattress with a lifetime warranty against workmanship and material defects for the original purchaser.

For the first two years, Saatva will replace a defective mattress with a brand-new one at no cost to the customer. After that, Saatva will repair and re-cover a defective mattress for a $149 transportation fee.
If customers wish, they can opt for the Fairness Replacement Option. In this case, they get to keep their defective mattress and buy a new one at a reduced rate. This option can be used a maximum of one time per customer.

The warranty covers body impressions at least 3/4 inch deep. To qualify for the warranty, the mattress must be used on a uniform surface. Platform beds should have a solid surface placed over them, and queen and king mattresses must be supported by at least 5 or 6 legs including a vertical center support. Adjustable bases are also acceptable.

Burned, abused, or otherwise damaged mattresses shall have their warranty voided.
