The Loom & Leaf mattress is made by Saatva, an online mattress company with a proven track record of satisfied customers. This all-foam mattress features deeply conforming memory foam comfort layers and a quilted organic cotton cover. It’s enhanced with cooling gels and phase-change material to give you a cool night’s sleep.
Customers can choose from two options: Relaxed Firm and Firm, which equate to a 6 and an 8 out of 10 on our firmness scale. Between the two options, the Loom & Leaf is able to cater to almost any type of sleeper.
The Loom & Leaf represents a bigger investment than other foam mattresses, but each mattress is made with high-quality materials and comes with free White Glove delivery. Old mattress removal is also offered at no extra charge.
Aside from the Loom & Leaf, Saatva also makes the Saatva luxury innerspring, the Saatva Solaire airbed, the Saatva HD luxury hybrid, and the Zenhaven latex mattress. The company also recently released the Saatva Youth, an innerspring specially designed for children.

The Loom & Leaf mattress is offered in two firmness options: Relaxed Firm and Firm. These correspond to a medium firm and firm on our firmness scale.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
With its medium firm feel, this model is best suited to side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. The laminated lumbar pad helps keep the spine supported while allowing the hips and shoulders to sink in, thereby reducing pressure on these sensitive areas.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers require an even balance of support and pressure relief to keep the spine aligned. The Loom & Leaf medium firm model is a tad on the soft side, but should still provide sufficient support for most back sleepers regardless of body weight. That being said, it may be too soft for some sleepers over 230 pounds. The lumbar support fills in the space under the lower back to help reduce spinal misalignment.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers require the firmest surface of all sleeping positions, to prevent the hips from sinking in and putting pressure on the neck. If you weigh less than 230 pounds, you should find the medium firm surface of the Loom & Leaf to be sufficiently firm. However, people who weigh more than 230 pounds are at risk of sinking uncomfortably far into this mattress.
Side Sleepers
The firm Loom & Leaf mattress does an excellent job of alleviating pressure points in side sleepers over 230 pounds. Even sleepers over 130 pounds will find that the dense memory foam contours well without sacrificing support. On the other hand, if you’re a side sleeper and you weigh less than 130 pounds, you likely won’t sink far enough into this mattress. This may lead to pressure points in the hips and shoulders.
Back Sleepers
This model rates very well with back sleepers of all body types, especially those who weigh at least 130 pounds. The memory foam is dense enough to maintain spinal alignment, yet it conforms to relieve pressure points. With the added support from the lumbar cooling gel, back sleepers should experience optimal support and pressure relief on the Loom & Leaf firm mattress.
Stomach Sleepers
The Loom & Leaf mattress offers a firm surface that adapts well to stomach sleepers across the board, particularly stomach sleepers over 130 pounds. This is great news for people who love the feel of memory foam but have had trouble finding a supportive enough all-foam mattres

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
The memory foam comfort layers in both Loom & Leaf models do a very good job of preventing motion transfer across the bed.
Thanks to its high point elasticity and slow response to pressure, high-density memory foam is one of the best materials for isolating motion. The all-foam construction of the Loom & Leaf further ensures there is no chance for motion to travel across the surface of the mattress.
If you sleep with a partner, you likely won’t wake up every time they roll over or get out of bed.
The dense foams in the Loom & Leaf conform in response to heat and pressure, forming a tight cradle that alleviates pressure points. This makes the bed suitable for all sleeping positions, even side sleepers who sometimes experience soreness in the hips and shoulders.
The Relaxed Firm model allows for more sink than the Firm model, but both have sufficient memory foam to prevent pressure from building up.
Mattresses that are made entirely out of foam tend to retain heat and sleep hot. With its breathable cotton cover, cooling gels, and phase change material, the Loom & Leaf succeeds somewhat in limiting heat retention. The lumbar pad uses phase-change material to draw heat away from the sleeper, which helps cool down this warmer part of the body.
The Firm model keeps sleepers mostly on top of the bed, but the Relaxed Firm model allows sleepers to sink into the mattress. This can cause body heat to build up around the sleeper and get trapped in the memory foam, which may lead to an uncomfortably hot sleeping experience.
Most foam mattresses suffer from weak edges, but the Loom & Leaf stands up well to people sleeping near the edge of the bed. This allows couples to spread out right to the edges when sharing the bed, giving each person more space.
The edges will compress more with added pressure, meaning some people may experience feelings of roll-off when sitting on the edge of the bed. The Firm model has a slightly firmer surface that may feel more stable to people over 230 pounds.
Despite the slow-conforming memory foam, the Loom & Leaf doesn’t restrict movement as much as some other all-foam mattresses. This is partly thanks to the lighter layer of memory foam, as well as the transitional layer of polyfoam.
While we usually recommend a hybrid or latex mattress if you like switching sleeping positions, the Loom & Leaf may be an attractive option for combination sleepers who want an all-foam mattress.
Like any foam mattress, the Loom & Leaf will emit a faint odor when it first arrives. This is perfectly normal and you can expect the smell to go away within a few days.
The Loom & Leaf is not shipped shrink-wrapped. While most off-gassing will occur during the manufacturing process, there will likely still be some odors present when you receive the mattress because of its higher-density foams.
Loom & Leaf mattresses are made with CertiPUR-US certified foams, meaning they are free of formaldehyde and low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
The Loom & Leaf is an all-foam mattress that comes in two firmness levels: Relaxed Firm and Firm. These equate to a 6 and a 8 on our comfort scale, or medium firm and firm, respectively.
The mattress is 12 inches tall. Both models feature the same layers: a quilted cover, memory foam comfort layers, and a polyfoam base. The only difference is a slightly firmer foam in one of the memory foam layers of the firm model.
The cover is 100% organic cotton with an antimicrobial coating, quilted with 5/8 inch of foam. Loom & Leaf uses a built-in natural thistle flame retardant to satisfy flammability requirements with minimal chemicals.
The comfort layer has 3 inches of memory foam split into two layers. The first layer is a memory foam with a density of 4 pounds per cubic foot (PCF). This foam is convoluted for greater airflow and has swirling gel infusions that are designed to minimize heat retention. Additional cooling gel with phase-change material is laminated onto the lumbar area to provide enhanced spinal support and cooling in the center third of the body.
The second foam has a density of 5 pounds per cubic foot (PCF), which is considered medium to high density. It has a fairly slow response to pressure and offers deep conforming and pressure relief. This foam is firmer in the Firm model.
A 2-inch high-density polyfoam layer helps ease the transition onto the support core. The Loom & Leaf has a 6” base made of high-density polyfoam. This maintains spinal alignment and provides a stable foundation for the mattress.
Loom & Leaf also sells an organic cotton mattress pad that customers can add on when ordering. In addition to helping protect the mattress, this provides a tiny bit more cushioning. Customers who have found the Loom & Leaf too firm say they have occasionally been sent a mattress topper to adjust the firmness, although this is not listed on the Loom & Leaf website.
