Thanks to its relatively thick comfort system, the Saatva Solaire isolates motion to a greater degree than many airbeds on the market.
The pillow top absorbs a significant amount of motion, so sleepers might not feel motion transfer across the surface of the mattress when their partner moves during the night. A moderate amount of motion is also absorbed by the Talalay latex layer, but its bouncy feel could transfer some vibrations. Most sleepers are unlikely to find this motion transfer significant enough to interfere with their sleep.

Pros & Cons:
The Saatva family of brands includes Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. All of the Saatva brands focus on selling direct-to-consumer luxury mattresses, but mattress constructions vary between models. The Saatva uses a hybrid design, the Saatva HD uses a hybrid design intended to accommodate larger individuals, the Saatva Youth Mattress is an innerspring designed for children, the Loom & Leaf is constructed of foam, the Zenhaven is made of latex.
As an airbed, the Saatva Solaire is unique among Saatva’s offerings, but the quality is seen throughout, cracking our best mattress of the year list several times. The Solaire uses a pillow top, a layer of latex, a layer of memory foam, a moisture barrier, vulcanized air chambers, and a power edge enclosure. The air chambers can be emptied and filled to adjust the mattress’s firmness.
Its advanced design and air chamber technology make the Solaire more expensive than other models by Saatva. However, the Solaire also has a longer warranty, with coverage for 25 years.
This review will discuss the Solaire’s pros and cons, construction, pricing, performance, and more to help you decide if the Solaire is a good match for your sleep style.
Saatva Solaire Video Review
Watch the video below to see how the Saatva Solaire performed when put to the test in our lab.
Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Like all mattresses, the Saatva Solaire works better for some people than others. Two key factors that can affect who gets the best results from the Saatva Solaire are sleeping position and body weight.
Side Sleepers
Thanks to the Solaire’s relatively thick comfort system and adjustable firmness, most side sleepers should be able to find a setting that balances contouring and support.
The mattress’s pillow top cushions a side sleeper’s curves. The layers of latex and memory foam contour more deeply to spread out their body weight and relieve the pressure that tends to build up around the shoulders and hips.
Softer settings allow side sleepers under 130 pounds to sink in a little more deeply for better pressure relief. Medium settings may appeal to sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. Firmer settings will likely be the best match for side sleepers over 230 pounds.
While the Solaire uses a thicker comfort system than many airbeds on the market, it may not be thick enough to allow some side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds to sink in without reaching the air chamber support core. Side sleepers in this weight group are still likely to find the firmer settings of the Solaire quite comfortable, but they might not experience as good of a balance between contouring and support as sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds.
Back Sleepers
The Solaire’s even support can help support the natural spinal alignment of most back sleepers.
Many back sleepers suffer from aches and pains if their mattress sags in the midsection. Because people tend to carry more weight near the middle of their bodies, the extra force on the mattress can cause a back sleeper’s hips to sink in too deeply, putting their spine out of alignment. Over time, many mattresses develop permanent dips or sagging near the center of the bed, making it difficult for back sleepers to maintain proper alignment.
Because of the Solaire’s air chamber system, the bed should be able to provide lasting support without sagging. Additionally, if a back sleeper notices their hips are sinking too deeply into the bed, they can adjust the firmness for more support.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers may also benefit from the stable, even sleep surface that the Solaire can provide.
Since many individuals have most of their weight centered around the middle of their bodies, a stomach sleeper’s hips and belly may sink too deeply into some mattresses. This could put a strain on the sleeper’s spine.
The air chambers’ multi-directional box baffle leads to even support throughout the mattress, which should prevent excessive sagging around the middle of the bed. Stomach sleepers may experience more sinkage near their hips when they have the bed on softer settings. This can be easily adjusted by increasing the firmness.

Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Saatva Solaire Mattress Review Breakdown
The Saatva Solaire is an airbed constructed of multiple layers of mixed materials.
The innovative bed is topped by a pillow-top that adds surface-level cushioning and a ‘plush’ feel. The mattress cover uses breathable organic cotton to allow air circulation, while a 2-inch layer of polyfoam is quilted into the cover for extra softness.
Next, a 1-inch layer of Talalay latex gives the surface more buoyancy and responsiveness. This layer is zoned to provide targeted support around the hips and promote better spinal alignment. A 2-inch layer of 2.5 pounds per cubic foot (PCF) gel-infused memory foam contours to the sleeper’s body to relieve pressure points while redistributing excess heat. This PCF rating indicates a relatively low-density memory foam. Foams in this density range tend to be more breathable and bouncier than higher-density foams, but they also tend to be less durable.
A moisture barrier uses PVC sheeting and 1 inch of polyfoam to protect the air chambers from potentially damaging moisture.
The mattress’s support core uses vulcanized air chambers that are around 6 inches tall. These chambers have a multi-directional box baffle design to provide even support throughout the mattress by ensuring the air is well distributed. The vulcanization process strengthens the rubber for lasting durability. Queen and king sizes use two different chambers, allowing each side of the mattress to be adjusted separately. The smaller sizes come with one remote to control the firmness, while the larger sizes have two.
Wrapping around the outer perimeter of the mattress, there is a power edge enclosure. This layer reinforces the edge while discreetly housing the air inflator system.
The Solaire’s firmness level can be adjusted by emptying or filling the air chambers using the mattress’s remote. Sleepers can select a firmness ranging from soft (3 on the 10-point firmness scale) to firm (8).
In addition to the standard version of the mattress, an upper-flex option is also available. This option is split at the head end of the mattress so that each side can operate independently with an adjustable base.
At 13 inches thick, the Saatva Solaire can be considered a high-profile model, so it may need extra deep sheets.

Mattress Prices and Sizing
Airbeds tend to be among the most expensive types of mattresses, and the Solaire Mattress’s price is higher than average for airbeds. However, it uses high-quality materials and can adjust to a wide range of firmness options, so it may be worth the added expense for some shoppers.
The queen and king size mattresses are available in two options: standard and upper-flex. The upper-flex option has a split area at the head end of the bed to work with an adjustable base. This option tends to cost several hundred dollars more than the standard version.
While the Saatva Mattress is available in most standard mattress sizes, it is not available in twin size. However, split king and split California king sizes are available.
