Side Sleepers

The Full Moon Mattress works well for most side sleepers, especially those under 230 pounds.

Side sleeping concentrates all your weight onto one side of your body, loading your hips and shoulders and potentially creating painful pressure points as you sleep. The Full Moon’s all-foam construction and medium firm (6) feel provide moderate contouring, and the comfort layer’s gel-infused polyfoam works to cushion the hips and shoulders and relieve pressure in these areas.

Side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds may find that they sink too deeply into the surface of the Full Moon. This can result in poor spinal alignment and possibly back pain.

Back Sleepers

The Full Moon Mattress also provides a comfortable and supportive sleep surface for back sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds.

When sleeping on your back, you need to ensure that your mattress provides the right balance of contouring and support. A mattress that’s too soft may cause your lower back to sink into the sleep surface, disrupting the natural curvature of your spine. However, a mattress that’s too firm doesn’t properly cushion the curves of your body.

The Full Moon performs well for back sleepers, offering a combination of pressure relief and support for the lower back. The polyfoam comfort layer provides medium contouring, while the higher-density polyfoam layer is supportive and prevents sagging in the lumbar region.

Stomach Sleepers

The Full Moon is most comfortable for stomach sleepers under 130 pounds.

Like back sleepers, people who sleep on their stomach can be prone to lower back pain. If the midsection sinks too deeply into the mattress, the natural curve of the spine becomes exaggerated and strains the back. To prevent sagging, stomach sleepers usually need a relatively firm sleep surface. However, a minimal amount of cushioning also helps prevent painful pressure points at the hip bones.

Sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds usually require a softer mattress. But for stomach sleepers in that weight range, the Full Moon’s medium firm comfort level provides a good balance of contouring and support.

The Full Moon Mattress may lack sufficient support for stomach sleepers who weigh above 130 pounds.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5/10

Foam materials tend to absorb motion and prevent it from transferring across the bed’s surface. Motion transfer can disturb your partner’s sleep, making this an important feature for couples sharing a mattress.

The polyfoam comfort system and support core of the Full Moon Mattress help prevent motion transfer. Our testers noticed very little movement on the bed’s surface even when someone was getting into or out of the bed or tossing and turning.

Pressure Relief

6/10

The Full Moon’s medium firm feel proportionally cushions each part of the body. This allows the mattress to relieve key pressure points such as the hips and shoulders while providing enough support to maintain proper spinal alignment.

The Full Moon’s design offers moderate cushioning, though its polyfoam layers do not provide a deep body-hugging feel. For more substantial contouring, consider a bed with a memory foam comfort system.

Temperature Control

4.5/10

Inexpensive foam formulations tend to absorb and retain body heat, which can cause sleepers to wake up in the middle of the night feeling hot and sweaty.

Although the Full Moon uses a simple design and boasts a low price tag, the bed avoids the common pitfall of overheating. The Full Moon’s polyfoam comfort layer features gel infusions designed to dissipate body heat quickly and keep you cool as you sleep.

However, those who tend to sleep very hot may rest better on a hybrid mattress that allows for more airflow.

Edge Support

6/10

All-foam mattresses often focus on cushioning and pressure relief at the expense of edge support. However, the Full Moon Mattress is sturdy enough to allow you to feel supported even at the outermost edge of the bed.

Strong edge support can increase the usable surface area of a mattress and make it easier to get into and out of bed. If you need stronger support, a hybrid mattress or bed with reinforced edges may better suit your needs.

Ease of Movement

4.5/10

For an all-foam mattress, it is very easy to move across the surface of the Full Moon Mattress due to the stiffness of the bed’s high-density polyfoam support layer.

Foam usually offers ample cushioning. But some foam formulations, especially memory foam, can make it harder to move around on the mattress. The polyfoam in the Full Moon provides moderate contouring and resilience, making it easier to get in and out of bed and change sleep positions.

Off-Gassing

5/10

Opening a new mattress — particularly an all-foam mattress — often means experiencing off-gassing, which is the shedding of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) created during the manufacturing process. VOCs are harmless but can create an unpleasant odor.

While the Full Moon Mattress gives off a noticeable odor after unboxing, the smell quickly dissipates after several hours in a well-ventilated room.

Full Moon Mattress Review Breakdown

The Full Moon Mattress is an all-foam bed that features a simple design. The mattress has a single-layer comfort system composed of 2 inches of gel-infused polyfoam that’s formulated to be contouring yet responsive. This gives the bed a slight bounce not often found in all-foam models. Additionally, the gel infusion is designed to sleep cool.

The support core of the Full Moon Mattress includes 6 inches of high-density polyfoam. The denser formulation of the support core helps balance the contouring feel of the comfort layer. It also provides a stable base to support the weight of the bed.

Together, the two layers of the Full Moon Mattress create an 8-inch, medium firm (6) sleep surface that provides good comfort to a range of sleepers. The Full Moon’s low profile and lightweight design also make this bed easy to move and transport.

The Full Moon is wrapped in a blended polyester and viscose knit cover, giving the bed a soft and smooth feel.
