Zinus launched in 2004 as a direct-to-consumer bedding company. With its affordable prices and wide selection of memory foam and hybrid beds, the brand has become a prominent name in the online mattress industry.

The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is the company’s flagship product. This three-layer, all-foam mattress is available in four different profile options, measuring 6, 8, 10, and 12 inches tall. Each version performs uniquely, as the distinct thicknesses of the memory foam and polyfoam layers offer differing levels of contouring and support. However, all four models have a medium soft (4) firmness level.

One of the Green Tea Foam Mattress’s standout features is the unique memory foam, which has green tea extract and charcoal infusions intended to absorb moisture and fight odor buildup. The mattress also contains a transitional layer of polyfoam, and high-density polyfoam in the support core that helps provide a sturdy base.

To help you decide if the Zinus Green Tea Mattress could be right for your sleeping style, we’ll examine important factors such as materials, construction, and pricing, as well as shipping, warranty, and return policies.

You prefer a compact bed and a less conforming surface. This model performs relatively well on temperature regulation, as it doesn’t contour as closely to the sleeper’s body. However, the thinner profile of this mattress may not provide enough support for back and stomach sleepers, particularly those weighing more than 130 pounds. You enjoy a low profile and you sleep with a partner. With a slightly more robust comfort section, the 8-inch model isolates motion to prevent it from disturbing other sleepers. The thicker comfort layers also provide better pressure relief for side sleepers under 230 pounds. You like sleeping on a close-conforming surface. The thicker 2.5-inch comfort layer provides additional pressure relief by cradling sharp areas of the body, such as the hips and shoulders. Side and back sleepers weighing 230 pounds or less may enjoy this model’s plusher feel. You’re seeking enhanced pressure relief. With 3 inches of memory foam and 2 inches of transitional polyfoam, the 12-inch model lets sleepers sink in deeper to take weight off sensitive areas of the body.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers tend to place considerable pressure on areas such as the hips and shoulders. Sleepers in this position need a plusher surface that can cradle sharp points of the body while still providing enough support to keep the spine in a neutral position.

All versions of the Zinus Green Tea Mattress perform particularly well for side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds. The medium soft (4) feel and the conforming foam alleviate pressure buildup and help reduce pain and discomfort over time.

Side sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds may prefer the 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch models. The thicker comfort section provides extra pressure relief, while still helping maintain spinal alignment. While these thicker models offer sleepers some additional support, they may not be firm enough for side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers typically benefit from medium firm surfaces that promote proper spinal alignment, with just enough cushioning to cradle the torso and fill in the lumbar area These sleepers require added structure to prevent sinking throughout the night.

The 10-inch and 12-inch models provide an even balance of support and pressure relief for back sleepers under 230 pounds. The 12-inch version is especially suitable for back sleepers under 130 pounds, who often prefer softer beds.

The 6-inch version of this mattress may not provide enough support for back sleepers. Similarly, those who weigh more than 230 pounds may find that all models of the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress allow too much sinkage in the midsection, which can lead to lower back pain.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers generally require a firmer surface to prevent the abdomen from sinking. Mattresses that are too plush can place additional stress on the lower back.

Individuals who weigh less than 130 pounds don’t sink as far into the mattress, and these sleepers may find the 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch Zinus Green Tea Mattress models comfortable when sleeping on their stomach. However, this bed may not provide enough support for heavier stomach sleepers.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8/10

6-inch: 6 / 10

8-inch: 7.5 / 10

10-inch: 7.5 / 10

12-inch: 7.5 / 10

All versions of the Zinus Green Tea Mattress contain memory foam, which contours to the sleeper’s body to prevent vibrations from traveling across the surface of the bed. With their thicker comfort sections, the 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch models provide above-average motion isolation.

Motion isolation may be valuable for couples who are easily disturbed by each other’s movements. Memory foam has a slow response to pressure, allowing it to absorb motion and make it less noticeable when a sleep partner rolls over or gets out of bed.

Pressure Relief

7.5/10

6-inch: 6 / 10

8-inch: 6 / 10

10-inch: 7.5 / 10

12-inch: 7.5 / 10

The 10-inch and 12-inch Zinus Green Tea models provide exceptionally strong pressure relief.

Areas such as the hips, shoulders, and torso often bear a significant amount of weight when sleeping. Without proper cushioning, these areas can become uncomfortable or painful throughout the night.

Conforming memory foam in the Zinus Green Tea Mattress helps distribute body weight to reduce pressure buildup in sensitive areas. The thicker comfort layers of the 10- and 12-inch options feature a plusher and more deeply contouring surface for above-average pressure relief.

Temperature Control

4/10

6-inch: 6 / 10

8-inch: 4.5 / 10

10-inch: 4.5 / 10

12-inch: 4.5 / 10

While the 6-inch model remains relatively cool thanks to its thinner comfort layer, the thicker Zinus Green Tea models may become too hot for some sleepers.

Overheating is a common issue that can interfere with quality rest. Memory foam in particular is known for trapping heat, which can make it an uncomfortable material for sleepers who run warm.

To help fight heat retention, the higher-profile Zinus Green Tea Mattress models incorporate a layer of aerated polyfoam, which has small holes designed for heat to escape. However, the close-conforming memory foam still traps a significant amount of heat around the sleeper’s body. Those in warmer climates may do better with a hybrid or innerspring mattress.

Edge Support

5.5/10

With its medium soft firmness and all-foam construction, the Zinus Green Tea Mattress supplies below-average edge support. This is to be expected of any plush memory foam mattress.

Edge support may be an important consideration for individuals who like sleeping near the perimeter of the mattress, or for those who rely on the edges to get in or out of bed.

Because the Zinus Green Tea Mattress is fairly soft and conforming, it may compress excessively when pressure is placed on the edges. Individuals with mobility issues or those who worry about slipping off the sides may prefer a bed with more structure.

Ease of Movement

4/10

The deeply contouring foam of the Zinus Green Tea Mattress may make movement difficult for some sleepers. The thick foam layers can make it challenging to move freely.

Ease of movement is important for sleepers who switch positions frequently throughout the night, or those who have mobility issues. Resilient materials with some bounce tend to make movement easier, while conforming materials may inhibit motion.

Off-Gassing

5/10

Shoppers may notice a distinct new mattress smell when unboxing the Zinus Green Tea Mattress, particularly with the thicker models.

Many new foam mattresses are accompanied by a chemical-like scent. This distinct odor is often a result of off-gassing, during which the materials air out and release volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs typically disperse within a few days and are not generally considered harmful, but they can be bothersome.

The 6-inch version has the least off-gassing due its thinner build and reduced memory foam in the comfort layer, though sleepers who are sensitive to smell may still want to let the mattress air out before sleeping on it.

Zinus Mattress Review Breakdown

The Zinus Green Tea Mattress is an all-foam model with three layers in total. The top layer consists of memory foam infused with green tea and charcoal. The second layer is a transitional layer of polyfoam. The mattress has a high-density polyfoam support core and a polyester jacquard cover.

The mattress is available in four different profile options, each of which features the same materials in varying thicknesses. Regardless of the profile, each version ranks a 4 out of 10, or medium soft, on the mattress firmness scale.

The 6-inch model is a compact option, with 1 inch of memory foam, 1 inch of transitional polyfoam, and 4 inches of high-density polyfoam. Due to the relatively thin comfort section, sleepers mostly sleep on, as opposed to in, this mattress.

The 8-inch model has a 2-inch comfort layer of memory foam and a 2-inch transitional layer of polyfoam. The thicker transitional layer provides additional structure. Beneath the transitional layer is a 4-inch support core of high-density polyfoam.

The 10-inch model has a slightly more conforming feel, with 2.5 inches of memory foam and 2 inches of transitional polyfoam. The support core contains 5.5 inches of high-density polyfoam, which is thicker than the lower-profile mattresses and provides more support.

The 12-inch model utilizes a 3-inch comfort layer of memory foam and a 2-inch polyfoam transitional layer for deep conforming and pressure relief. The support core is made of 7 inches of high-density polyfoam, which is on par with other all-foam mattresses.

All foams used in the mattress are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning they have been tested and found free of formaldehyde and ozone-depleting substances.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

The Zinus Green Tea Mattress has a competitive price-point compared to similarly built memory foam models. Though each profile option of the mattress comes in at a different price-point, all mattresses fall well below the average range and may be a good option for budget-minded shoppers.

Some factors that typically contribute to a bed’s price include quality of materials, unique designs, or additional services such as White Glove delivery. The lowered operating costs of being an online business allow Zinus to offer very competitive prices. Shoppers may also find discounts on Zinus mattresses through authorized third-party online retailers.

Most models of the Zinus Green Tea Mattress are available in the twin, full, queen, and king sizes. Additionally, the 8-inch model is offered in a twin XL, the 12-inch model is available in a California king, and the 6-inch and 8-inch models are available in a short queen size designed for an RV. The 6-inch and 8-inch models may be more vulnerable to body impressions due to their thinner comfort sections.
