Polysleep is a Canadian mattress brand based in Montreal. The company was founded in 2016 and donates a portion of its mattresses to charity. The brand currently produces three foam mattresses: the Origin, the Polysleep, and the Zephyr.

The Zephyr Mattress is the most advanced of the three, featuring Nanobionic technology that is designed to promote restorative sleep by converting body heat into infrared energy. The top layers of the mattress also have aerated holes and gel infusions intended to reduce heat buildup. With its medium firm feel, equivalent to a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, the mattress has appeal for a range of sleepers.

We’ll explore the design, performance ratings, and company policies of the Polysleep Zephyr Mattress to help you decide if this mattress could be the right fit for you.

Side Sleepers

The Zephyr mattress is ideal for side sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds. For these sleepers, the mattress provides targeted support and pressure point cushioning.

The mattress is also a good option for side sleepers under 130 pounds, though it may cause some pressure points at the hips and shoulders. Side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds sink deeper into the foam, and may find that the Zephyr offers insufficient support.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers under 230 pounds receive adequate support from the Zephyr Mattress. The medium firm surface contours to relieve pressure points, and the zoned polyfoam layer helps support the lumbar spine, which is a common problem area for back sleepers.

The bed may not provide enough support for back sleepers over 230 pounds. These individuals may require a sturdier mattress, such as a hybrid mattress, to prevent the midsection from sinking too far into the bed.

Stomach Sleepers

With the exception of individuals under 130 pounds, the Zephyr Mattress is a little too soft for most stomach sleepers.

Stomach sleepers require a firm, supportive mattress to keep the spine on an even plane. The Zephyr Mattress allows sleepers to sink in a little bit, which can lead to sagging in the midsection and pressure buildup in the neck and back. The effect is more pronounced for stomach sleepers over 230 pounds, who put more pressure on the bed.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8/10

Although it doesn’t transfer as much motion as an innerspring mattress, couples may notice some referred movement when their partner shifts positions on the Zephyr Mattress.

Memory foam tends to conform quite closely to the sleeper, which helps absorb motion. The Zephyr contains memory foam, but this foam is not as dense as traditional memory foam, so it doesn’t conform as closely. This may allow stronger movements to ripple across the surface of the bed, though the all-foam construction should muffle the majority of disruptions.

Pressure Relief

8/10

Compared to other foam mattresses, the Zephyr ranks slightly below average on pressure relief. This is due to its medium firm feel and relatively thin memory foam.

The mattress features a zoned construction, with softer foam under the shoulders and firmer foam under the hips and torso. This arrangement is designed to provide targeted support, offering cushioning for common pressure points and firmer support where necessary.

The zoning performs well for side sleepers, who are most likely to experience pressure points at the hips and shoulders. However, the all-foam construction may allow excessive sinking and corresponding pressure buildup for sleepers over 230 pounds.

Temperature Control

5.5/10

Foam mattresses tend to absorb and hold body heat, which can make them a poor choice for hot sleepers. However, the Polysleep Zephyr Mattress features gel infusions and open-cell aerated foams meant to mitigate heat retention. The mattress may not sleep as cool as a hybrid or innerspring mattress, but it regulates temperature better than the average foam mattress.
As one of the few foam models with reinforced edges, the Polysleep Zephyr Mattress stands out for its edge support.

Edge support describes the ability of your mattress to support weight and pressure on its edges. When you sit on the edge of a mattress with good edge support, the mattress supports you instead of sinking under your weight. This can be important for people who like to sleep toward the edge of the bed instead of the center.

The high-density polyfoam encasement in the Zephyr Mattress is designed to provide solid support over the entire surface of the bed.

Ease of Movement

5.5/10

The Zephyr offers relatively strong ease of movement for a foam mattress.

Ease of movement refers to how well you can move across the bed. If you are an active sleeper, this could be an important factor for you. Memory foam mattresses usually do not perform well in this category due to their soft, sinking nature.

Despite containing memory foam, the medium firm Zephyr is fairly quick to regain its original shape. It’s not as responsive as a latex or a hybrid mattress, but most sleepers should be able to move around quite easily.

Off-Gassing

6/10

Sleepers may notice a distinctive odor when unboxing the Zephyr Mattress. The odor is due to off-gassing of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which occur as a by-product of the foam manufacturing process. Off-gassing is not typically considered harmful, and the smell usually disappears in a few days once the mattress has had a chance to air out.

The Zephyr is CertiPUR-US certified, which means it has been tested and found to have low VOC emissions.

Polysleep Zephyr Mattress Review Breakdown

The Zephyr Mattress by Polysleep is made with four layers of foam. The top layer of open-cell memory foam features gel infusions designed to improve temperature regulation. Next is a layer of aerated polyfoam, which helps improve airflow. This layer is treated with antimicrobial technology engineered to fight bacteria.

A transitional layer of zoned polyfoam provides firmer support in the middle third of the mattress. The mattress also has a high-density polyfoam support core designed to support the spine. These bottom two layers are surrounded by a high-density polyfoam encasement that reinforces the edges.

All the foams used in this mattress are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they meet strict standards for indoor air quality.

Polysleep designed the Zephyr to include Nanobionic infrared technology, which is meant to help you rest and recover faster as you sleep. The technology is integrated into the mesh cover, which comprises a blend of polyester, spandex, and organic cotton.

The Zephyr has an 11.5-inch profile and is medium firm, falling at a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

The Zephyr Mattress is relatively expensive compared to other foam mattresses, and it has the steepest price-point of the three Polysleep mattresses. The higher cost is due to the use of specialty materials in this mattress, notably the Nanobionic technology.

The Origin Mattress has a basic two-layer design with an accessible price-point, and the Polysleep Mattress has a similar construction to the Zephyr Mattress but without the Nanobionic technology.

The Zephyr has an average profile and it is sold in the six standard mattress sizes.
