The OkiFirm mattress is the firmest of OkiOki’s four mattress models. Standing at 10 inches tall, the mattress rates 8 out of 10 on our firmness scale. With a supportive design featuring a 3-inch graphite memory foam layer and a 7-inch polyfoam core, the OkiFirm works particularly well for back and stomach sleepers.

OkiOki has three other mattresses. The OkiEasy and OkiFlex are hybrid mattresses that use a combination of memory foam and pocketed springs to provide good support for a wide range of sleepers. The OkiSoft is a softer all-foam mattress that works well for side sleepers.

We’ll explore the OkiFirm Mattress in greater detail, taking a closer look at its performance characteristics for different kinds of sleepers. We’ll also discuss pricing, sizing, and shipping policies. Read on to see if the OkiFirm is the best mattress for you.

Side Sleepers

The best mattresses for heavy sleepers tend to be firm, while lighter sleepers often prefer a softer feel. Our side sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds appreciated the firm (8) feel of this mattress and felt they got a good balance of support and pressure relief. The OkiFirm’s strong pushback helped them avoid the “stuck” feeling that can result from softer mattresses with deeper contouring.

However, the side sleepers on our testing team who weigh less than 230 pounds felt the mattress was too firm and lacked the usual “hug” of an all-foam mattress. The best mattresses for side sleepers generally feature close contouring and pressure relief, which can help keep the spine aligned. Those who need this kind of support may prefer a softer mattress that conforms more closely to the body.

Back Sleepers

During testing, the OkiFirm performed well for back sleepers weighing more than 130 pounds. These sleepers found that the OkiFirm offered enough responsive pushback through the torso to keep the hips and shoulders from sinking too deeply into the mattress. This helped relieve pressure and improved spinal alignment.

However, the mattress was too firm for our back sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds. These sleepers usually need a somewhat softer mattress that offers enough give to comfortably support the hips and lumbar region.

Stomach Sleepers

The firmness of the OkiFirm worked well for the stomach sleepers on our team. The extra support kept them from sinking too far into the mattress, which can create pressure points and result in aches and pains.

The OkiFirm worked best for our stomach sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds. The graphite foam and high-density polyfoam combination lifted their hips and chest to support a healthy alignment.

Stomach sleepers under 130 pounds also responded positively to the OkiFirm’s subtle contouring and significant support, although some sleepers in this category may find the OkiFirm a touch too firm. Our testers weighing over 230 pounds also gave the OkiFirm good reviews. It is worth noting, however, that stomach sleepers in this weight category may experience slight sinkage around the stomach, making it harder to maintain proper spinal alignment.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5/10

Our testers found that the OkiFirm’s graphite-infused memory foam does a good job of reducing motion transfer, particularly when compared to other firm (8) foam mattresses.

However, the firmer foam doesn’t tend to absorb motion as well as softer memory foam might. This means that sleepers who are sensitive to their sleep partner’s movements may experience interrupted sleep more on the OkiFirm than they might on a traditional memory foam bed.

Pressure Relief

6/10

We found that the graphite-infused foam used in the OkiFirm mattress provided good pressure relief, though not on the same level as you might find in a traditional memory foam mattress. The OkiFirm does offer some conforming at the joints, but it trades deeper contouring for extra supportiveness.

This may be less than ideal for side sleepers, who tend to benefit the most from the signature “hug” of memory foam. Back and stomach sleepers, on the other hand, may find that the mattress’ lightly conforming surface gives them a just-right level of pressure relief.

Temperature Control

5/10

The firm sleep surface of the OkiFirm left our testers feeling like they were lying on top of the mattress rather than “in” it. This lower amount of contouring means there’s less opportunity for heat to build up between the sleeper and the mattress.

The OkiFirm’s graphite foam is highly porous and designed for extra breathability. However, this open structure may not be as effective at dissipating heat as other mattresses with built-in cooling technologies.

Nevertheless, when combined with the OkiFirm’s gentle “hug” and a cover made with cooling phase change material, the graphite foam helps maintain good temperature control.

Edge Support

6.5/10

The OkiFirm’s support core is made of 7-inches of high-density polyfoam. This firm foundation contributes to the mattress’ overall solid feel and helps provide good edge support.

All-foam mattresses have a tendency to sink as sleepers get into or out of bed, or they may collapse inward as sleepers roll toward the edges. The OkiFirm’s firmer-than-average edge support counteracts this sinkage somewhat, especially for sleepers weighing less than 230 pounds.

Ease of Movement

5/10

The significant contouring in a typical all-foam mattress can sometimes make movement more difficult. However, the OkiFirm’s firm (8) feel allowed our testers to easily move across the surface of the mattress.

The OkiFirm’s responsive graphite foam, combined with the solid pushback from the underlying polyfoam support core, helped our testers in all weight categories get into and out of bed without too much difficulty.

Sex

6/10

Many couples enjoy having a firmer, bouncier mattress for sex. The OkiFirm provides a solid foundation and responsive surface, making it easier to change positions and find traction. The good edge support also allows couples to use more of the mattress.

However, the OkiFirm may not provide enough cushioning for some couples.

Off-Gassing

5/10

When new, all-foam mattresses may emit strong odors associated with the off-gassing of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs are considered to be relatively harmless, but their chemical smell can be off-putting. Most VOC odors disappear within 48 to 72 hours after unwrapping the mattress from its shipping materials.

We found that the OkiFirm has a significant amount of off-gassing when it is first unboxed. However, placing it in a well-ventilated area may help dissipate odors more quickly.

OkiFirm Mattress Review Breakdown

The OkiFirm Mattress has a 10-inch profile and an all-foam construction. Three inches of high-grade graphite memory foam make up the comfort layer. This foam’s porous composition allows air to pass through, which helps with temperature regulation. A 7-inch layer of high-density polyfoam forms the OkiFirm’s support core. All together, these layers give the mattress a firm feel of 8 on the 10-point firmness scale.

The mattress’ cover is made with phase change material that wicks heat away from the sleep surface. This, combined with the tiny air holes in the graphite foam layer, are designed to help the OkiFirm sleeps cool, particularly compared to other all-foam models.

Shoppers can select from six sizes, including twin XL to California king. OkiOki recommends pairing the OkiFirm with a mattress foundation if the OkiFirm will be used on a metal bed frame. A compatible version is available for purchase for all six mattress sizes. A box spring or a bed frame with slats will also work.
