Most mattresses have a smell when they are new. For the Layla Hybrid, this is amplified by the comfort layers of memory foam that are prone to off-gassing. This is to be expected with any foam hybrid mattress.
Off-gassing is most noticeable when the Layla Hybrid is first unboxed. This is caused by volatile organic compounds in the foam (VOCs) releasing into the air. Some may be more sensitive to the smell than others, but it is generally not considered to be harmful.
The Layla Hybrid is CertiPUR-US certified. This means it is made without ozone-depleting chemicals and is low in VOCs.
The coils of the mattress add airflow and help dissipate any initial odor. The smell should fade within a couple of days. Keeping the room well-ventilated and letting the mattress air out before adding bedding will help.

Pros & Cons:
Layla originally garnered attention for its flippable memory foam Layla Mattress with two different firmness options. The company has taken that concept and applied it to a new mattress with a hybrid construction for better support.
The Layla Hybrid, which we’ll cover extensively in this review, is a flippable mattress with a support core of pocketed coils. The mattress uses copper-infused memory foam in its comfort system for temperature regulation and pressure relief. The coils add airflow and edge support. With a removable cover, the Layla Hybrid is easier to keep clean than the average hybrid mattress.
Sleepers have a choice between a soft (4) and firm (7) side on the Layla Hybrid. The soft side offers exceptional motion isolation and pressure relief, while the firm side allows for ease of movement and better temperature regulation.
We’ll break down the construction and firmness levels of the Layla Hybrid in this comprehensive review. We’ll also help readers understand the key differences between each side of the Layla Hybrid. Our recommendations incorporate verified customer feedback. Lastly, we’ll outline the company’s policies for shipping, returns, and warranty coverage.
The Layla Hybrid is a flippable model with a soft side and a firm side. Each side offers different benefits and drawbacks for shoppers. Purchasers can try both sides in the comfort of their homes, but should keep the following considerations in mind. Also, check out our interview with Layla co-founder Akrum Sheikh to learn about the benefits of a flippable mattress.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
Generally speaking, those who sleep on their sides may feel pressure build at their shoulders and hips, especially if their mattress is too firm. The conforming feel of the Layla Hybrid relieves pressure in these areas. The Layla Hybrid is responsive, so it reacts proportionately to pressure for side sleepers and helps keep the spine aligned.
The soft side of the mattress is excellent for side sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds. The cushioning foam is beneficial for the shoulders and hips, while the supportive core keeps the spine aligned. This side of the mattress may be too soft for sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds though, as they are more likely to sink in excessively.
The firm side offers good support for side sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds. The comfort layer of memory foam contours more moderately than the soft side, and the firmness of the mattress is more supportive. This helps keep the spine aligned. However, it is likely too firm for side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers are more likely to maintain a neutral posture as they sleep. That said, these sleepers benefit from a conforming mattress that supports the lower back and relieves pressure. With two firmness options that suit different body types, the Layla Hybrid is a good choice for back sleepers.
The soft side is best for back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. These sleepers will not sink into the mattress excessively, but the memory foam will contour to the shape of the body and support the lumbar region. Back sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds run the risk of pressing into the soft layers too much, which can lead to spinal misalignment.
Those who weigh more than 130 pounds should consider the firm side instead, which is excellent for back sleepers in this category. There is enough contouring on the firm side for pressure relief and lumbar support. Those who weigh less than 130 pounds will not benefit as much from this side and may find it feels too firm.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firm surface to support their hips and abdomens, especially if they carry additional weight in these areas. The Layla Hybrid is supportive enough for stomach sleepers.
The soft side is best for stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. This firmness cushions the shoulders and chest while supporting the lower half of the body. Those who weigh more than 130 pounds may find they sink into the soft side too much.
For the most part, stomach sleepers will be better supported by the firm side. The firm transition layer is zoned for added support and the thinner memory foam comfort layer offers moderate contouring for the chest and shoulders.

Layla Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown
The Layla Hybrid has responsive layers of memory foam, polyfoam, and pocketed coils. The hybrid construction allows sleepers to experience the benefits of both a foam and innerspring mattress while minimizing any drawbacks. The mattress has a height of 13 inches.
The cover of the Layla Hybrid is made with polyester, rayon, viscose, and poly lycra. The cover is soft and breathable and includes a label that indicates the firmness of each side. Vinyl handles attached to the cover make it easier to flip the mattress if needed. The cover can be removed for cleaning. Layla recommends dry cleaning the mattress cover.
On the soft side of the mattress, the comfort system includes 2.5 inches of copper-infused memory foam and two inches of polyfoam. The copper-infused memory foam is thermally conductive, meaning it draws heat away from the body and sleeps cooler than traditional memory foam. Copper also has antimicrobial properties. The soft side relieves pressure points by closely conforming to the shape of the body. A two-inch layer of Tri-Zone-Airflow polyfoam underneath has deep channels to circulate air. This layer includes surface modification technology (SMT) for better support.
The firm side of the mattress has a thinner, one-inch layer of copper-infused memory foam above 1.5 inches of Tri-Zone-Airflow polyfoam. The polyfoam transition layer is firmer for less contouring and more support. This side relieves pressure points but also provides ease of movement.
The support core of the mattress is six inches of pocketed coils. The coil center has a reinforced perimeter of lower gauge coils for better edge support. Coils also add airflow throughout the mattress, which prevents heat retention and allows the mattress to sleep cool. They add bounce to the mattress, making it easy to change positions as needed.

Mattress Prices and Sizing
The Layla Hybrid is considered to fall in the mid-range price point for a hybrid mattress, if not slightly below the average price. Though it is a newer model, we expect it to meet or exceed the average lifespan of a hybrid mattress, which is six to eight years. The durable coil core offers consistent support.
Though it may not be the best fit for shoppers on a budget, it is a valuable investment when you consider the overall construction of the mattress. It includes two firmness options in one and is made with premium materials.
The Layla Hybrid is available in standard sizes twin through California king. Each size has a height of 13 inches, so deep pocket sheets are recommended.
