Cloverlane is the luxury label of the popular mattress company Resident Home. Like other Resident subsidiaries — including Nectar, DreamCloud, Siena, and Awara — Cloverlane uses a direct-to-consumer business model. But unlike Resident’s other mattress-in-a-box brands, Cloverlane mattresses ship uncompressed, with free in-home delivery and setup.
The Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress is designed to offer both support and pressure relief, especially for people with lower back pain. Its hybrid construction combines a Euro-top cover, foam and latex comfort layers, and a support core of individually wrapped coils.
This 15-inch mattress is available in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. On our 10-point firmness scale, these rate as medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (7), respectively.
Cloverlane also offers an all-foam version of the mattress for the same price. This model has a polyfoam support core rather than pocketed coils, and it’s designed for enhanced motion isolation.
We’ll share how the Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress performed during testing in our sleep lab. We’ll also delve into the bed’s materials and construction and explore how testers of different weights and sleep position preferences rated the available firmness options.
Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
The Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress excelled for side sleepers in most weight groups on our testing team. In general, side sleepers need enough give from their mattress to allow the hips and shoulders to sink in slightly but enough pushback to prevent spinal misalignment.
Our testers weighing less than 230 pounds found that the Plush Soft version provided a nice balance of support and cushioning. Those over that weight threshold said they prefer the more balanced feel of the Luxury Firm model.
Back Sleepers
We’ve found that back sleepers generally need a high level of support, especially in the lower back, but they still typically require a moderate amount of cushioning to relieve pressure.
The Luxury Firm version of the Cloverlane Hybrid received high marks from back sleepers under 230 pounds on our team. They praised its denser memory foam formulation and felt evenly supported by the bed’s pocketed coil core. Testers over 230 pounds felt better supported on the Firm option.
Stomach Sleepers
Our stomach sleepers were nearly unanimous in their preference for the Firm version of the Cloverlane Hybrid. While some testers under 130 pounds liked the slightly softer feel of the Luxury Firm option, most enjoyed the stronger pushback of the Firm model. These assessments are typical for stomach sleepers, who generally need a firm sleep surface to prevent their midsection from sinking uncomfortably.

Plush Soft:
8 / 10
Luxury Firm/Firm:
6.5 / 10
While the thick foam comfort system of the Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress does a fairly good job of absorbing movement, it’s somewhat offset by the responsiveness of the 8-inch coil layer.
This effect is more pronounced on the Firm model. The softer options use plusher memory foam, latex, and polyfoam formulations that buffer vibrations when sleepers shift positions.
Plush Soft:
8 / 10
Luxury Firm/Firm:
6.5 / 10
Overall, the Cloverlane Hybrid offers solid pressure relief thanks to a contouring memory foam layer beneath the Euro-top cover. However, the amount of pressure relief varies according to the firmness option.
We recommend the Plush Soft option for side sleepers under 230 pounds. Our testers fitting this sleep profile liked how the memory foam layer provided just enough give to comfortably conform to their hips and shoulders.
Our team’s side sleepers over 230 pounds and back sleepers under that weight level preferred the Luxury Firm version. While it provides less pressure relief from a technical standpoint, these testers said this more balanced option offers the mix of cushioning and support they seek in a hybrid mattress.
The Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress performed strongly in our temperature control tests, with the Luxury Firm and Firm options particularly excelling. The Plush Soft version contains softer memory foam and thus traps more heat when a sleeper’s body sinks more deeply.
Hybrid beds generally sleep cooler than all-foam models because the coils allow air to circulate. The Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress features vents in the bottom cover designed to further promote breathability.
That said, foam layers still have a tendency to retain heat. To help counter this effect, the Cloverlane Hybrid uses memory foam infused with gel that’s engineered for cooling. It also features a Euro-top that’s designed to dissipate body heat.
Hybrid mattresses usually offer more edge support than all-foam beds because their coil support core resists sagging. The Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress takes edge support a step further by encasing the perimeter of the core in dense foam.
Reinforced edges are especially useful for people who have trouble getting in and out of bed. They also allow sleepers to use the entire surface of the bed.
While all three firmness options of the Cloverlane Hybrid provide solid edge support, our testers noted that the Luxury Firm and Firm versions are noticeably sturdier than the Plush Soft model.
The pocketed coil core of the Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress gives it a responsive feel that allows for relatively easy movement across the surface, though sleepers may encounter some resistance from the memory foam comfort layer.
The Luxury Firm and Firm models use denser memory foam that allows for easier movement, while the Plush Soft option conforms closer to the body and may slightly impede position changes for heavier individuals.
When first unboxed, mattresses constructed with foam can give off a temporary smell. Known as off-gassing, it’s caused by the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced during the manufacturing process.
The Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress uses foams certified by CertiPUR-US as meeting that third-party group’s standards for indoor VOC emissions. Our team also noticed that the Cloverlane Hybrid produces less off-gassing than most online mattresses since it isn’t compressed for shipping.
As a hybrid mattress, this Cloverlane model combines construction elements of foam and innerspring beds. Its design aims to bring together the advantages of both types of mattresses, offering a balance between adaptive contouring and responsive support.
The 15-inch Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress comes in three firmness options. On our testing team’s 10-point scale, the Plush Soft option rates as medium soft (4), the Luxury Firm version is medium firm (6), and the Firm model is firm (7). The densities of the memory foam, latex, and polyfoam in the comfort system vary according to the firmness option. Otherwise, the materials and construction are the same for all three versions.
The bed’s quilted Euro-top contains polyester and polyethylene designed to wick moisture and disperse heat. It encases 1.75 inches of polyfoam with three support zones aimed to promote spinal alignment. Shoppers can upgrade to a cover with more advanced cooling technology for an additional fee.
The comfort system includes 2 inches of memory foam, which offers a conforming feel crafted to relieve pressure. Beneath that, a half-inch layer of latex placed horizontally across the middle of the mattress provides targeted lumbar support.
These comfort layers are buttressed by a 2.5-inch layer of transitional polyfoam that’s engineered to help evenly distribute body weight. The support core contains individually wrapped 8-inch coils surrounded by a sturdy polyfoam perimeter encasement. A high-density polyfoam base layer adds stability. The mattress’ lower cover features eight handles and 16 brass air vents designed to increase breathability.
