Like many hybrid models, the WinkBed’s contouring can help relieve a sleeper’s pressure points.
The Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer versions of the mattress have a pillow top and a layer of polyfoam to cradle the sleeper. This can relieve pressure from a sleeper’s wider, heavier body parts by redistributing their body weight.
The PLUS version of the mattress uses a layer of polyfoam and a layer of latex for contouring. The polyfoam cushions pressure points, while the latex spreads the sleeper’s body weight over a wider surface area. Some sleepers feel that sleeping on latex creates a floating sensation while preventing pressure buildup.
Additionally, all of the firmness options use zoning in the coil core for more targeted support. This reduces the risk of the sleeper’s hips sinking in excessively and putting the spine out of alignment.

The WinkBed Mattress – one of our best mattress of the year and the best mattress for back pain recommendations – comes in four firmness options: Softer, Luxury Firm, Firmer, and PLUS. The Softer version rates around 4 on the 10-point firmness scale, which means it has a medium soft feel. The Luxury Firm comes in at a 6, so it can be considered medium firm. The Firmer option comes in at a 7 and PLUS rates at an 8, giving them both a truly firm feel.
These firmness options vary in constructions to achieve the intended feel. The Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer options contain polyfoam and a pocketed coil core. The PLUS version of the mattress uses polyfoam, latex, and a pocketed coil core.

WinkBed Video Review
Watch the video below to see how the WinkBed Mattress performed when put to the test in our lab.
Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
Each of the firmness options of the WinkBed may excel for side sleepers in some weight groups. The Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer versions of the mattress have a Euro-style pillow top that cushions the surface, while a second foam layer contours more deeply to relieve pressure from their shoulders and hips. A zoned coil core gives extra support near the sleeper’s midsection to support proper spinal alignment. The PLUS version uses a layer of polyfoam for cushioning and zoned latex and coil layers for added support and pressure relief.
How each mattress firmness performs for side sleeping is likely to vary based on the individual’s weight. The Softer version of the WinkBed may be best suited for side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds. The Luxury Firm should accommodate side sleepers from all weight groups, but it may be most comfortable for those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. The Firmer and PLUS options should be a good fit for most side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds.
Mattresses that are firmer than ideal may contribute to pressure buildup around the hips and shoulders, while mattresses that are too soft may make it more difficult for side sleepers to maintain proper spinal alignment.
Back Sleepers
The four firmness options of the WinkBed can give back sleepers the even support they need, but the balance of cushioning and support an individual experiences will vary based primarily on their weight. Too firm of a mattress could feel hard and lead to some pressure near the sleeper’s hips, while too soft of a mattress may allow the hips to sink in too deeply and put a strain on the sleeper’s spine.
Since the Softer version of the WinkBed has a plusher feel, it may be a good match for back sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds. The Luxury Firm version is also particularly appropriate for sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds. Back sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds may find the Firmer version most comfortable. Individuals who weigh over 230 pounds may like the Firmer or PLUS option for their extra support.
Every version of the WinkBed Mattress uses zoning in its coil layer to reduce the likelihood of a back sleeper’s hips sinking in excessively. Since the PLUS version is constructed for larger individuals, it also uses zoning in its latex layer for extra support where back sleepers need it most.
Stomach Sleepers
Since individuals tend to carry much of their body weight near their bellies and hips, stomach sleepers usually need enough support to prevent their midsections from sagging into the mattress. While too soft of a mattress could contribute to spinal strain, stomach sleepers usually like some cushioning.
The Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer versions of the WinkBed have good cushioning from their Euro-style pillow tops. A layer of polyfoam softens the surface of the PLUS. All versions of the WinkBed have zoning in their coil cores to bolster the support for a sleeper’s hips. The WinkBed PLUS also uses zoning in its latex layer for extra support for heavier individuals.
Because of their differences in firmness, each version of the WinkBed Mattress may be better suited for some weight groups than others. Stomach sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds may find the Softer version most comfortable. Those who weigh over 130 pounds may prefer the Firmer or PLUS versions of the mattress.

WinkBed Mattress Review Breakdown
The WinkBed is a hybrid model with four firmness options, including medium soft (4), medium firm (6), firm (7), and firm (8). The construction and materials vary between these firmness options.
Each WinkBed Mattress uses a Tencel cover. This natural fabric is derived from eucalyptus and is crafted to sleep cool by wicking away excessive heat.
The Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer versions of the mattress have a quilted Euro-pillow top with gel-infused polyfoam. This material contours to the sleeper’s body to relieve pressure points, and the gel-infusion pulls heat away. The Softer version uses three layers in its pillow top, while the Luxury Firm and Firmer versions use two layers.
Next, the Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer versions of the mattress have a polyfoam transitional layer. This provides extra cushioning while reinforcing the body to prevent sinkage.
The PLUS option uses a unique comfort system with a layer of 1.8 pounds per cubic foot (PCF) polyfoam and a 2.5-inch layer of latex. The PCF rating of the polyfoam indicates that it is high-density, which makes it more durable and less likely to form lasting impressions. The latex layer provides deeper contouring and extra bounce while allowing for airflow.
Each mattress has a zoned, pocketed coil system to provide targeted support designed to promote proper spinal alignment. The pocketing of the coils reduces motion transfer within the layer. The PLUS option bands these pocketed coils together in groups of four for extra support.
All of the firmness options measure 13.5 inches thick, so the WinkBed Mattress can be considered a high-profile model. Because it is thicker than average, the WinkBed Mattress may require extra deep sheets.
