Polyfoam’s ability to absorb motion helps the Tuft & Needle reduce vibrations felt across the surface of the mattress when one partner moves. For people who tend to awaken easily, this can help provide a more restful night’s sleep.
The Tuft & Needle’s degree of motion isolation is similar to most all-foam mattresses on the market.

Pros & Cons:
Tuft & Needle is one of the most well-known direct-to-consumer mattress companies. Its mattress line includes three models: the Tuft & Needle, the Mint, and the Hybrid. The Tuft & Needle and the Mint are all-foam models, while the Hybrid pairs foam and coils. While other pages on this site will discuss the Mint and the Hybrid in-depth, this review will focus solely on the Tuft & Needle Mattress.
The Tuft & Needle Mattress, also called the Tuft & Needle Original, is the company’s flagship bed. It is also the company’s most affordable mattress, coming in at a lower-than-average price point for an all-foam model. The mattress is constructed of two layers of high-density polyfoam crafted to isolate motion and contour to the sleeper’s body without trapping heat.
In this Tuft & Needle Mattress review, we’ll detail the bed’s construction, performance, and pricing. We’ll also summarize customer reviews and company policies.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
The Tuft & Needle’s medium firm feel coupled with cradling from its 3-inch polyfoam comfort layer makes it a strong option for most side sleepers. Side sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds are likely to get the best blend of pressure relief and spinal support. They should sink in just the right amount to take the pressure off their hips and shoulders while keeping their spines aligned. Side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds may find the bed feels a bit too firm for them to sink in enough for pressure relief.
Back Sleepers
Thanks to its medium firm feel, the Tuft & Needle can provide the even plane that many back sleepers rely on to keep their spines aligned. The polyfoam comfort layer cushions the surface without a lot of sinkage around the midsection of the bed. Since the mattress uses high-density polyfoam, it should also resist sagging and indentations over time.
The Tuft & Needle is likely to be most supportive for back sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds. Individuals who weigh over 230 pounds may experience some sinkage near their hips, so they may find it a bit more difficult to maintain good spinal alignment.
Stomach Sleepers
The Tuft & Needle’s polyfoam comfort layer can provide comfortable cushioning for stomach sleepers, but its medium firm feel may not be supportive enough to prevent their hips from sinking in a bit, particularly if they carry extra weight near their midsections.
Stomach sleepers who weigh under 230 pounds will likely get the support they need. Their hips may dip into the mattress slightly more than ideal, but it is unlikely to be significant enough for them to notice a strain on their spine. Individuals who weigh over 230 pounds may notice more sagging near their midsections, which can make it harder to keep their spines aligned.

Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Tuft & Needle Mattress Review Breakdown
The Tuft & Needle comes in one firmness, which is medium firm. For most individuals, this feel is likely to strike a comfortable balance between softness and support.
A cover crafted from a blend of micro polyamide and polyester encases the mattress. The material has a soft hand-feel and is also fairly breathable. For an additional $50 in any size, customers can opt for a cover treated with HeiQ NPJ03 antimicrobial protection to safeguard the mattress against harmful microbes that can affect its overall lifespan.
The comfort layer consists of 3 inches of T&N Adaptive Foam. This proprietary polyfoam is high-density, lending to its durability. While it cradles the sleeper to relieve pressure points, it is infused with graphite and ceramic gel to draw heat away rather than trapping it against the sleeper’s body.
A 7-inch layer of polyfoam acts as the support core. This polyfoam has an open-cell structure so that air can circulate through it to help cool the mattress. Due to its high density, this layer resists sagging and long-term impressions while providing even support.

To be eligible, the owner must have purchased the mattress from an authorized seller, used the mattress for its intended purposes, and used a proper foundation. The damage must not be a result of abuse or neglect.
Tuft & Needle will, at its discretion, repair or replace mattresses it finds to have an eligible defect. Additional terms and conditions apply.
