Pressure relief is one area where both TEMPUR-Adapt models perform at the same level. This is due to their identical comfort and transitional layers. The adaptive TEMPUR-ES memory foam cradles the body, supports the spine, and alleviates pressure points in the shoulders, hips, and other sensitive areas.
Meanwhile, the denser TEMPUR memory foam transitional layer prevents sleepers from sinking too deeply into the mattress and experiencing added pressure as a result.
That said, some sleepers may still sink too much due to the bed’s medium firmness feel. These include stomach sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds, as well as back sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds. We recommend a firmer, more supportive mattress for these individuals.

Pros & Cons:
Tempur-Pedic is an online and brick-and-mortar mattress brand that has been in business since 1991. The company helped popularize memory foam mattresses, and is today a leading seller of all-foam and hybrid mattresses with memory foam layers. This review will focus on the TEMPUR-Adapt, a model that debuted in 2019.
The TEMPUR-Adapt is available in two individual designs. The all-foam model is constructed with a comfort layer of conforming TEMPUR-ES memory foam, followed by a transitional layer of denser TEMPUR memory foam. The support core consists of high-density polyfoam, and the non-removable cover is made from a polyester blend. Tempur-Pedic also offers a hybrid version of the TEMPUR-Adapt. This model shares the same cover, comfort layer, and transitional components as the all-foam version, but the hybrid’s support core features pocketed coils encased in high-density foam.
Both the all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt mattresses measure 11 inches thick. In terms of feel, they are both considered medium, or a 5 on the 1-10 firmness scale. In addition to the TEMPUR-Adapt, Tempur-Pedic offers five other mattress models. These include the TEMPUR-ProAdapt and TEMPUR-Probreezeº, which are also available as all-foam or hybrid models, and three exclusively all-foam mattresses: the TEMPUR-Cloud, TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt, and TEMPUR-Luxebreezeº.
We’ve highlighted everything you need to know about the all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt mattresses. Below, you’ll find detailed information about construction and materials, prices, performance ratings, and Tempur-Pedic’s company policies.

You want a mattress that conforms very closely and offers minimal responsiveness. The all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt hugs the body to form a deep, pressure-relieving cradle. Many people liken this feeling to sleeping “in” – and not “on” – the mattress. Side sleepers, in particular, may prefer this model because it cushions the shoulders and hips to promote even spinal alignment. | You enjoy the close contouring of memory foam, but also like a bit of bounciness on the surface. Compared to other competing hybrids, the TEMPUR-Adapt is not particularly responsive. However, you’ll notice a bit more push-back on these models than you will on the all-foam versions. The hybrid’s coils also ensure stronger edge support and better breathability. |
Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers generally prefer plusher mattresses with ample padding for their shoulders and hips. This ensures even support for their bodies, which in turn aligns the spine and reduces pressure in sensitive areas. For this reason, the all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt is very well-suited to side sleepers – particularly if they weigh 230 pounds or less. Their bodies won’t sink too deeply into the mattress, but the foam contours closely enough to alleviate pressure points along the spine.
Side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds should also find the all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt comfortable, but this model will be too soft for some. These side sleepers often require a medium firm to firm surface that will support their bodies while also cushioning their pressure-sensitive areas. Due to its medium feel, an all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt will likely sag beneath the hips and shoulders, which can interfere with spinal alignment.
Back Sleepers
Compared to side sleepers, back sleepers typically need less contouring and more support – in other words, a firmer mattress feel. This is because the back sleeping position promotes spinal alignment without help from the mattress. The surface should conform to the body somewhat closely while maintaining an even plane with minimal sagging around the torso and waist, where weight tends to be concentrated. The all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt’s medium feel will be ideal for many back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds because it conforms closely, but should not sink too much.
Back sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more will probably not feel as comfortable on the all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt. Excessive sagging between the shoulders and hips will be the main issue for most. This causes the body to sink in the middle while the head and legs remain elevated. Over time, this lack of support may contribute to serious aches and pains.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers generally require enhanced support for the midsection and gentler cradling for the head and legs. Without this extra reinforcement, these sleepers tend to sag excessively as the weight from their stomach and hips pulls them into the mattress. Neck and shoulder aches are a common result. With this in mind, the all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt’s medium feel and significant sinkage are not particularly suited to stomach sleeping.
Some stomach sleepers who weigh 230 pounds or less may feel comfortable on this mattress, though it’s likely most will sink too deeply. We don’t recommend the all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt to stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds, as the support it provides will likely be insufficient for these individuals.
Side Sleepers
The all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-Adapts are very similar in many respects, including suitability for side sleepers. Those who sleep on their side and weigh up to 230 pounds will probably feel very comfortable on the hybrid model. The combination of close contouring from the memory foam and light coil responsiveness keeps their bodies on an even plane as their shoulders and hips sink into the cushioning foam. We expect most side sleepers in this weight range will experience even spinal alignment and great pressure relief.
Side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds should also find the hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt supportive enough, though there will be more sinking between the shoulders and hips. For some, this may throw their spinal alignment off-kilter and create added pressure. Side sleepers who find the hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt too soft should consider a medium firm or firm hybrid instead.
Back Sleepers
The hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt offers a bit more support than the all-foam model. Back sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds should feel reasonably comfortable on this mattress thanks to a good balance of body-contouring and push-back from the pocketed coils. These sleepers may sink a bit around the torso and waist, but probably not enough to compromise how supportive the mattress feels.
On the other hand, back sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds will likely feel less comfortable due to excessive sagging. Despite the coil system, this hybrid feels softer, conforms more closely, and sinks deeper than a lot of competing models with similar pocketed coil designs. Instead of the hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt, we’d recommend a firmer hybrid with stronger coils for back sleepers in this weight group.
Stomach Sleepers
The hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt is also better suited to stomach sleepers than the all-foam model, but only slightly so. This is largely due to the added responsiveness from its coil system. Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds should receive enough support for their chest, waist, and hips to rest on an even plane without sinking too deeply. Even then, some may find the hybrid’s medium feel too soft.
Although the coils add a bit of extra strength, the hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt is not well-suited to stomach sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more. Deep sinkage between the shoulders and hips will likely be an issue for many of these individuals. For stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds, we highly recommend mattresses with zoned support layers, meaning the areas beneath the chest, stomach, and waist are firmer than those under the head, neck, and legs. This ensures comfortable cradling for the lighter areas and more reinforcement for areas where people tend to carry the most weight.

TEMPUR-Adapt Mattress Review Breakdown
The all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt is constructed with two memory foam layers. The comfort layer consists of TEMPUR-ES foam, a proprietary material renowned for its adaptive and body-contouring qualities. You’ll feel close body-conforming from the TEMPUR-ES memory foam and will probably sink quite a bit beneath the surface – especially if you weigh 130 pounds or more.
The transitional layer is made from TEMPUR memory foam, another proprietary material. The TEMPUR foam, which is much denser, prevents you from sinking too deeply into the mattress. A support core of high-density polyfoam lies beneath the transitional layer. The support core is designed to stabilize the entire mattress and reinforce the transitional foam.
The hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt has an identical TEMPUR-ES memory foam comfort layer and TEMPUR memory foam transitional layer. As a result, both beds offer a medium feel. In the hybrid’s support core, you’ll find pocketed coils encased in high-density foam. The coils give the surface some extra responsiveness, but the mattress still feels less springy than most competing hybrids.
The covers for both versions of the TEMPUR-Adapt are made from the same polyester blend, as well. Unlike other Tempur-Pedic models, the TEMPUR-Adapt’s cover is not removable. If stains occur, Tempur-Pedic recommends spot-cleaning the cover fabric with water and mild detergent.
The all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt mattresses each measure 11 inches thick, making them medium-profile models.

Mattress Prices and Sizing
The all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt each cost $2,199 in a queen size. For all sizes, these mattresses range from $1,699 in a twin or twin long to $3,398 in a split king or split California king.
These price-points are very expensive for an all-foam model and fairly high-end for a hybrid, but they are inexpensive compared to other Tempur-Pedic models. The TEMPUR-Adapt is more expensive than the TEMPUR-Cloud, but costs less than the TEMPUR-ProAdapt, TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt, TEMPUR-Probreezeº, and TEMPUR-Luxebreezeº.
There are no add-ons or customization options for the TEMPUR-Adapt that increase its price-point. White Glove delivery is free for most customers in the contiguous U.S., but those who live in remote areas or reside in Alaska or Hawaii must pay a flat shipping fee of $600.
