Launched in 2017, Nectar Sleep quickly earned a solid reputation for its memory foam mattresses, bed frames, and bedding. The company is known for its memory foam mattresses, particularly the Nectar. Later additions include the Nectar Premier and the Nectar Premier Copper, which both feature thicker memory foam and polyfoam layers. All three models have a balanced medium firm (6) feel.

Nectar recently added three hybrids to its mattress collection as well: the Classic Hybrid, the Premier Hybrid, and the Premier Copper Hybrid. All models have a firm (7) feel that blends memory foam and polyfoam comfort layers with a thick coiled core. The Premier hybrids have taller profiles and include extra luxury features like a cooling quilted cover.

We’ll provide an in-depth review of the Nectar Classic Hybrid, which features the lowest profile and the most affordable price-point of the three hybrid models. We’ll highlight the mattress’ materials, construction, and performance in key areas like pressure relief, durability, and temperature control to help you determine if the Classic is the right model for you.

Side Sleepers

Even though side sleepers generally prefer a softer mattress, we found the Classic Hybrid performed well for side sleepers over 130 pounds. These sleepers naturally sink into the mattress more, so they don’t require as much cushioning as side sleepers under 130 pounds. Our testers also noticed that the Classic’s moderate body hug evenly contoured the shoulders and hips, helping to reduce pressure buildup.

Side sleepers under 130 pounds will likely feel more comfortable on one of Nectar’s all-foam designs, which provide deeper cradling.

Back Sleepers

Our testers found that the Classic suited back sleepers across all weight ranges. The firm surface supports neutral spine alignment by resisting deep sinkage beneath the torso area. Plush memory foam eases pressure points on lighter body areas like the shoulders and legs. In general, our back-sleeping testers enjoyed a balanced combination of contouring and support with the Classic.

It’s important to note that back sleepers over 230 pounds who share a bed may notice more sagging over time than lighter back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

Like back sleepers, stomach sleepers typically favor a firm mattress that resists compression under the midsection. During our testing, the Classic Hybrid’s firm surface helped keep stomach sleepers’ midsections level, reducing strain on the lower back. We found the mattress to be supportive for stomach sleepers in all weight brackets, though it performed exceptionally well for those under 130 pounds.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7/10

A responsive coiled core tends to permit greater motion transfer across a mattress. That said, our tests revealed that the Nectar Classic isolates motion better than most hybrids.

Memory foam and polyfoam layers absorb excess motion from the springs, preventing movement from traveling to the other side. Pocketed coils move independently of one another, further reducing motion transfer.

The Nectar Classic is an excellent choice for those who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s or pet’s movements. Sleepers who frequently toss and turn also benefit from good motion isolation.

Pressure Relief

7/10

With its memory foam comfort system, the Nectar Classic relieves pressure for most body types and sleep styles. While the memory foam comfort layer isn’t as thick as some of the other Nectar models, it still cushions pressure points along the hips, shoulders, and spine. The combination of moderate contouring and firm support spreads body weight evenly across the mattress, helping to reduce pressure buildup.

The Classic particularly benefits back and stomach sleepers, as they don’t require as much contouring to align the spine. Conversely, side sleepers under 130 pounds may not receive enough cradling to alleviate tension at the shoulders and hips.

Temperature Control

7.5/10

Our tests showed that the Nectar Classic regulates temperature well, especially compared to other all-foam mattresses.

Heat retention is less of an issue since the memory foam isn’t as thick or body-conforming as other models. The gel infusions are intended to draw out heat, while the breathable cover helps maintain a cooler surface.

Additionally, the pocketed coils permit more airflow than dense polyfoam, so the Classic sleeps cooler than Nectar’s all-foam models. The responsive surface also keeps sleepers on top of the mattress, making uncomfortable heat buildup less likely.

Hot sleepers or those who tend to sink more into a mattress should find that the Nectar Classic regulates temperature better than most hybrid and all-foam models.

Edge Support

8.5/10

The Classic features standout edge support, thanks to a thick coiled core that resists deep compression. Reinforced edges and a firm surface minimize sagging along the sides.

We noticed that the stronger edge support made getting in and out of bed easier, which is likely to be an advantage for those with joint or back pain. Couples and individuals who like to spread out should also enjoy consistent support throughout the entire mattress.

Ease of Movement

6.5/10

A coiled core and responsive comfort system allow for easy movement on the Nectar Classic.

Sleepers who find plush memory foam mattresses too enveloping should appreciate the Classic’s gentle body hug. Our testers found that the firm surface doesn’t permit deep sinkage, making it easy to adjust positions. Extra bounce from the springs also facilitates movement.

Ease of movement is particularly helpful for combination sleepers who frequently change positions during the night.

Off-Gassing

7/10

Off-gassing is responsible for the chemical smell that many new mattresses emit. The odors are caused by volatile organic compounds (VOCs) contained in foams and other materials.

Nectar uses CertiPUR-US certified foams, indicating low VOC emissions. The Classic’s off-gassing is therefore pretty mild. Any odors should disappear within 24 to 72 hours of unboxing the mattress. Those who are more sensitive to the odors are advised to air out the bed in a well-ventilated room.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Nectar Classic is a four-layer hybrid that measures 12 inches thick. A quilted fabric cover incorporates Microban, a treatment designed to resist microbial growth. Convenient handles on the cover make transportation more accessible. The mattress’ firm feel registers as a 7 on the 10-point firmness scale.

A 2-inch memory foam comfort layer conforms to the body without permitting deep sinkage. This layer includes gel infusions that are engineered to reduce the heat retention – a common problem in memory foam mattresses. The 1-inch polyfoam layer below promotes good spine alignment by distributing body weight more evenly.

An 8-inch coiled core boosts responsiveness while reinforcing the upper comfort layers. The pocketed coils permit greater airflow than traditional innerspring systems. They also inhibit motion transfer since each coil moves independently.

The mattress is stabilized with a 1-inch layer of high-density polyfoam that absorbs motion from the springs.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

The Nectar Classic Hybrid is competitively priced when compared to similar hybrids on the market. Because of their complex design, hybrids are generally more expensive than all-foam mattresses. Unsurprisingly, the Classic commands a higher price-point than the Nectar and Nectar Premier foam models.

While the Classic has the lowest price of the company’s hybrids, the model boasts solid ratings across all performance areas, including durability.

At 12 inches thick, the Classic is an average height and shouldn’t need sheets with extra-deep pockets. The mattress is available in all six standard sizes.
