With so many all-foam mattresses on the market, it can be difficult to decide how to choose the best one for you. The Lull Original Premium Mattress is an option that provides good pressure relief and support while also emphasizing temperature regulation. It consists of a memory foam comfort layer, a polyfoam transitional layer, and a high-density foam support core.

Other mattresses made by Lull include the Lull Original and the Lull Luxe Hybrid. The all-foam Lull Original Mattress has three layers, including a gel-infused top layer designed to sleep cool. The Luxe Hybrid features a combination of memory foam, polyfoam, and coils that helps provide both pressure relief and support. All three Lull Mattresses have the CertiPUR-US certification, which means they are made with foam that is free of many potentially harmful substances.

The Lull Original Premium Mattress expands on the Original with an extra layer of memory foam in the cover and a thicker comfort layer. At 12 inches tall, its medium firm (6) feel balances comfort and support for side, back, and stomach sleepers.

We’ll explore the Lull Original Premium Mattress’ construction, performance, and price. We’ll also discuss where to order it, what the shipping process looks like, and how to benefit from the sleep trial and warranty so you can decide if it’s the best mattress for your needs.

Side Sleepers

The Lull Original Premium Mattress is well suited to side sleepers of all sizes, due to its blend of support and pressure relief. Our testers over 130 pounds found it especially comfortable and reported that their hips and shoulders sank in just the right amount. Our testers weighing over 230 pounds also noted that they got excellent pressure relief from this mattress without the sinkage that is typical of other memory foam beds.

Sleepers under 130 pounds reported that they felt fairly comfortable on the Lull Original Premium but that it lacked the give of plusher models. Some sleepers may prefer a softer mattress in order to get more of the feel of being “in” bed rather than on top of it.

Back Sleepers

The Lull Original Premium Mattress worked well for all of our back sleeping testers. Its medium firm comfort layer prevents the hips from sinking too far into the bed and causing spinal misalignment. At the same time, the foam molds to the lower backs, allowing the lumbar muscles to relax.

Although the mattress is suitable for all weights, our testers between 130 and 230 pounds seemed to enjoy it the most. They were heavy enough to sink into the foam and take advantage of its pressure-relieving qualities, while still receiving good support.

Stomach Sleepers

Our tests showed that the Lull Original Premium Mattress is best suited to stomach sleepers under 230 pounds. While softer foam beds don’t tend to be supportive enough for stomach sleepers, this mattress performed well due to its combination of both soft and firm foam in the comfort layer. Stomach sleepers should experience good pressure relief without too much sinkage.

However, our testers weighing over 230 pounds felt that the Lull Original Premium lacked the support they needed. A mattress that isn’t supportive enough can cause the midsection to sink too far into the bed, leading to neck and back pain. Although the Lull Original Premium is more supportive than many other all-foam mattresses, its conforming nature will likely make it less comfortable for stomach sleepers over 230 pounds.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8/10

We found that the Lull Original Premium Mattress excels at motion isolation and outperformed other all-foam beds during our testing.

The transitional layer of polyfoam, combined with the top layer of memory foam, enhances motion isolation by providing extra contouring. Sleepers who share their bed with a partner, children, or pets should experience little to no disruption.

Pressure Relief

8/10

All-foam mattresses generally provide good pressure relief, and the Lull Original Premium Mattress is no exception. The gel memory foam and polyfoam in its comfort system work together to cradle the body, allowing the hips and shoulders to sink in just enough to maintain good spinal alignment.

Temperature Control

5.5/10

Foam mattresses often retain heat, but the Lull Original Premium gets around this problem with a cover made of open-cell memory foam engineered to improve airflow. The top comfort layer of gel-infused foam is also designed to improve air circulation by drawing heat away from the body.

We found that sleepers over 230 pounds sank deeper into foam, which can lead to overheating. However, the Lull Original Premium’s sleep surface stays fairly cool by not conforming as tightly to the body, making this mattress a good option for those who typically find memory foam too warm.

Edge Support

7/10

A high-density polyfoam support core and firm polyfoam transitional layer give the Lull Original Premium Mattress a sturdier perimeter than many similar foam beds.

The polyfoam layers prevent significant sinkage for most sleepers. However, our testers weighing over 230 pounds did say they felt a little less supported on the outer edges of the mattress.

Firm edge support makes getting in and out of bed easier. It also allows sleepers to use more of the mattress’ surface area. This is especially handy for those with mobility concerns and couples who like a bit more space.

Ease of Movement

5.5/10

Foam mattresses generally conform to the body more than other kinds of mattresses. While this can be helpful in terms of pressure relief, it can also make it more difficult to move on an all-foam mattress as compared to other kinds of beds.

However, our testers reported very few issues with movement on the Lull Original Premium Mattress than other models. Its firmer sleep surface and polyfoam transitional layer give it a slightly springy feel, although not as pronounced as latex or hybrid beds. It also returns to its original shape more quickly than a plusher mattress would.

Off-Gassing

6/10

Vacuum sealing holds in chemical byproducts that are released as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs are generally considered harmless, but the smell may be unpleasant for those who are sensitive to strong odors.

Like many new foam mattresses, the Lull Original Premium releases a chemical smell when unpackaged. We found that this mattress gives off a little more of an odor than other all-foam mattresses. However, the odor will likely dissipate within 24 to 72 hours, particularly if you place the mattress in a well-ventilated area.

Lull Original Premium Mattress Review Breakdown

The all-foam Lull Original Premium Mattress is a medium firm (6) mattress with a cover made of open cell foam engineered for additional breathability. The comfort system includes a 2-inch layer of gel memory foam and a 2-inch transitional layer of polyfoam. The support core is made of high-density polyfoam.

The gel-infused memory foam is designed for even contouring. The foam cradles the body and supports sensitive areas like the lower back, helping to prevent pressure points. Tiny gel beads in the foam are intended to dissipate body heat and improve temperature regulation.

Below the memory foam, a transitional layer of dense polyfoam acts as a buffer between the comfort layer and the support core. It provides additional support and prevents the sleeper from sinking down into the support core. At the same time, the polyfoam’s slight give increases the bed’s responsiveness and enhances its pressure-relieving qualities.

The support core consists of 7 inches of durable, high-density polyfoam. This layer helps stabilize the mattress and support the layers above it.

The Lull Original Premium Mattress comes in six standard sizes, all of which have a 12-inch profile.
