Emma is an online mattress manufacturer with a lineup of beds that cater to a wide range of sleepers. The company has three models in its product line and also offers accessories like adjustable bed bases, bedding, and pillows. Bundled options allow you to purchase a mattress along with select bedding products at a discount.
We’ll take a deep dive into the Emma Hybrid Comfort Mattress, which is the company’s mid-price model. The medium firm (6) mattress has a foam comfort system and a support core made from pocketed coils. It’s also engineered with cooling features. We’ll explain how the mattress fared during performance testing in our sleep lab and will incorporate feedback from our testers into our review. We’ll also explore who we think will benefit most from this model and whether or not this mattress is compatible with your favorite sleeping position.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
The Emma Hybrid Comfort offers many benefits for side sleepers and is particularly suitable for those over 130 pounds. The zoned design of the coils offers enhanced pushback in the lumbar region and deeper compression for pressure-prone areas. The foam comfort layers cushion the hips and shoulders without allowing them to sink too deeply. Together, the coils and foam are an excellent combination for maintaining spinal alignment without developing pressure points.
Though most of the side sleepers on our team enjoyed the Emma Hybrid Comfort, it was a bit too firm for those under 130 pounds. Side sleepers within this weight group typically prefer more cushioning than this medium firm model provides.
Back Sleepers
The combination of cushioning and lumbar support earned the Emma Hybrid Comfort high marks among many of the back sleepers on our testing team. The medium firm feel balances sturdy support with plenty of cushioning, which is best suited for back sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds.
The zoned coil support core adapts to your body, allowing the bed to keep your spine supported and properly aligned while the foam comfort system cradles your spine and other areas prone to pressure buildup.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers typically favor mattresses with robust support and a firm feel. A mattress that’s too soft allows stomach sleepers to sink in the midsection, which can cause misalignment in the spine. Firm mattresses help keep stomach sleepers supported evenly from head to toe.
The Emma Hybrid Comfort is firm enough to support stomach sleepers under 130 pounds. Those within this weight group won’t sink too deep into the mattress. Some stomach sleepers above 130 pounds found the bed comfortable, but overall they would have preferred a model with more support for their weight.

While the Emma Hybrid Comfort Mattress offers some motion isolation, our testing team found that motion does transfer from one side of the mattress to the other and that the pocketed coil support core gives the mattress a somewhat bouncy feel.
If you’re a particularly light sleeper who wakes easily when your partner moves, this mattress may feel too responsive for your needs. The memory foam and polyfoam layers in the comfort system absorb some motion, but they aren’t thick enough to fully buffer co-sleepers from each other’s movements. Overall, this model is best suited to those who are okay with some motion transferring across the bed.
This mattress provides moderate pressure relief, but it may not be substantial enough for people who are especially prone to painful pressure points. If you’re a side sleeper under 130 pounds or someone with significant joint pain, you may want to consider a bed that contours more closely.
The Emma Hybrid Comfort Mattress has three foam layers, including one made from memory foam. Together, they offer some pressure relief by cushioning the body and adapting to your shape. This helps prevent sore spots from developing. Ultimately, though, the foam doesn’t offer the deep contouring and hugging effect provided by beds with thicker and plusher foam layers.
Though pressure relief is not this model’s biggest strength, the bed provides a comfortable balance of support and cushioning that’s appropriate for many sleepers.
The Emma Hybrid Comfort is designed with hot sleepers in mind. People who sleep hot or those who reside in warm climates should sleep comfortably on this model without sweating heavily or overheating at night.
Our testers attribute the bed’s strong temperature regulation to its hybrid design, which allows air to flow freely through the coils in the support core. The foam comfort system is also engineered to stay cooler than conventional foam layers due to the open-cell structure of the top polyfoam layer. This design is meant to enhance breathability. The mattress cover is also made with a polyester fabric that’s intended to wick away moisture and minimize heat buildup.
The support core has pocketed coils that provide sturdy support from one edge of the mattress to the other. You can sleep close to the perimeter on this mattress without rolling off due to the substantial edge support.
People with mobility limitations may find it easy to get in and out of this bed, since the edges resist sagging when you sit on them. While it fell just short of our highest performance rating, this model is still very beneficial for sleepers who want a mattress with plenty of edge support.
Our testers found it fairly easy to move around the surface of the Emma Hybrid Comfort, but the adaptive properties of the foam layers do inhibit some movement. The support core contains pocketed coils that are slightly bouncy, but the foam comfort system reduces the responsive quality.
The Emma Hybrid Comfort is best suited to those who want a bed that balances responsiveness and motion isolation. Sleepers won’t feel like they’re “trapped” in the foam layers, but they also won’t experience the bouncy feel that traditional innerspring mattresses often have.
Mattresses that contain foam are prone to off-gassing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The Emma Hybrid Comfort, like many other foam hybrid models, releases VOCs after it’s unboxed and unrolled. The odor can be unpleasant for those who are sensitive to smells.
To avoid off-gassing odors, set your mattress up in a well-ventilated area and wait at least a few hours before use. The manufacturer states that it may take up to two days for smells to completely dissipate.
The Emma Hybrid Comfort Mattress is a hybrid model with five layers and a 13-inch profile. The medium firm mattress is encased in a cover made of polyester. The bed is designed with an anti-slip bottom and handles that make it easier to lift and move.
The comfort system consists of three layers. The top layer is made from polyfoam with an open-cell composition that’s designed to trap less heat than conventional foams. Next is a memory foam layer that distributes weight evenly and isolates motion. This is followed by another polyfoam layer, which offers gentle contouring while buffering your body from the support layers beneath.
The support core has two layers, one made from pocketed coils and the other from polyfoam. The pocketed coils are divided into seven zones that provide enhanced support to your lower back and extra cushioning to areas like the shoulders and hips. The zoned construction helps keep your spine aligned. Beneath the coils is a high-density polyfoam layer that stabilizes the mattress and promotes durability.

Shipping Free shipping is available to shoppers in the contiguous U.S. Mattresses generally ship in two to five business days and come compressed and sealed in a box. Shoppers in certain regions can schedule a delivery for an added charge.
To assemble the mattress, open the box and remove the mattress from the plastic packaging. Though the mattress has handles, you may find it easier to unbox the mattress on your foundation to avoid having to move the bed once it’s out of the box.
Additional Services Emma offers old mattress removal for an additional fee. You can add this service at checkout and work with the Emma customer service team to set up a removal time. A third-party company will dispose of your old mattress.
