The Big Fig isolates motion moderately due to its pocketed coil support core and latex and polyfoam comfort layers. Pocketed coils are individually encased, which means they can be individually depressed. Due to individual coil encasement, hybrid beds with pocketed coils generally transfer much less motion than innerspring beds do.
Motion isolation is most important to sleepers who share a bed. Since the Big Fig isolates motion minimally due to the responsiveness of latex and polyfoam mixed with the springiness of the coil support layer, some sensitive sleepers may be bothered by motion transferring when a sleep partner moves around or gets on or off the bed.
Sleepers who are easily disturbed by motion transfer and require a bed that isolates motion better than this one might consider a memory foam mattress. Memory foam is known for isolating motion the best out of all mattress materials.

Pros & Cons:
Big Fig is an American family-owned mattress company. Short for “bigger figure,” Big Fig manufactures one mattress specifically designed for sleepers with larger frames. In addition to the Big Fig Mattress, the company sells a foundation and bed frame meant to work with the Big Fig. These items cannot be purchased separately.
The Big Fig Mattress is a hybrid constructed with a pocketed coil support core and polyfoam and latex comfort layers. It measures medium-firm, or 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The Big Fig stands 13 inches in height.
As expected, the Big Fig Mattress is most popular with larger individuals. That said, its medium-firm level of support also appeals to some people of average and lighter weights. Like many hybrids, the Big Fig provides a mixture of responsiveness and cushioning. It isn’t a highly contouring mattress, however. People who want the deep “hug” of memory foam won’t prefer this bed.
In this review, we cover everything you need to know to determine if the Big Fig Mattress will work well for you. We share information from mattress testing and customer reviews and detail Big Fig’s policies related to shipping, returns, and warranty.
Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers weighing over 130 pounds tend to find comfort on the Big Fig Mattress. Due to their differing firmness levels, the four comfort layers of this bed work well to support side sleepers’ abdomens.
The construction of the bed promotes spinal alignment in side sleepers. Softer upper comfort layers allow the heavier hips and shoulders to sink down farther into the bed, while supporting the abdomen. With the high-density lower polyfoam comfort layers, even the heaviest sleepers will not sink all the way down to the support core.
The Big Fig Mattress isn’t recommended for side sleepers weighing under 130 pounds, however. Most people in this group find that the mattress feels too firm. The upper-most comfort layers don’t sink in as deeply under their light body weights, which can lead to pressure points.
Back Sleepers
The Big Fig Mattress excels at providing lumbar support to back sleepers over 130 pounds. Back sleepers of all weight groups find this bed to be supportive, however. The 6 out of 10 firmness level serves back sleepers well. The firmness of the Big Fig Mattress provides support all night so lower backs do not sink in too deeply, creating an arched back.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers rate the Big Fig Mattress equally positively regardless of their body weight category. Generally, stomach sleepers prefer firmer mattresses than sleepers with other position preferences do.
Firmer mattresses provide needed support and spinal alignment to stomach sleepers, especially when paired with a low pillow. Some softer mattresses allow the bodies of stomach sleepers to sink in too deeply, creating an arch or pressure point in the neck.
The Big Fig performs exceptionally well for stomach sleepers above 130 pounds.

Big Fig Mattress Review Breakdown
The Big Fig Mattress is a medium-firm bed that features a hybrid construction. Latex and polyfoam comfort layers sit atop a pocketed coil support core. The entire bed is covered in a poly-blend fabric, which has been treated with ThermoGel. ThermoGel is intended to have a cooling effect.
The top comfort layer of the Big Fig is a gel-infused, aerated latex layer. Aeration allows for increased air flow through this layer. The gel infusion is also intended to help keep sleepers cool. Latex is a responsive material that conforms moderately to the sleeper’s body.
Beneath the latex layer lies three three high-density polyfoam comfort layers. The first layer measures 1.8 pounds per cubic foot (PCF) in density, while the two below it measure 2.5 PCF. These layers provide cushion without sacrificing the support required by larger sleepers.
The Big Fig’s support core consists of 1,600 individually wrapped pocketed coils. Compared to other types, pocketed coils are better at isolating motion. Their individual encasement allows one coil to be depressed without greatly affecting all those surrounding it.
A vertical layer of 80 ILD high-density polyfoam surrounds the pocketed coil support layer. This foam helps strengthen the edges of The Big Fit. Edge support is important to sleepers because it prevents edges from sagging and allows for full use of the surface of a bed.
Altogether, these layers combine to give the Big Fig a 13-inch profile. Thirteen inches is just above the average mattress thickness, so customers might have to purchase deep-pocket sheets to properly fit the bed.
The Big Fig is a tufted mattress, so there are fasteners inserted through the mattress vertically in 16 different spots. These tufts keep the layers secure and aligned with one another, so sleepers do not have to worry about shifting the bed.
Big Fig doesn’t offer any customized options on their mattress. The Big Fig Mattress measures 13 inches tall and rates 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Also, the company doesn’t sell any additional bedding items that change the firmness or feel of the mattress, such as mattress toppers or padded covers.

Mattress Prices and Sizing
The Big Fig Mattress is sold at average prices when compared to other hybrid mattresses geared toward larger sleepers. Generally, hybrid mattresses geared toward larger sleepers tend to cost a bit more than “regular” hybrid beds.
The Big Fig comes with a foundation at no extra cost, which allows shoppers who use a foundation to save money. Shoppers who do not want this foundation do not receive a discount on the mattress, however.
Since the Big Fig only comes in one firmness level (6 out of 10) and one thickness (13 inches), it’s sold at one price-point per size. There are no customization options available that change the price of the mattress.
